COVID-19 Hiatus

Wrong Brained,

After careful consideration, we have decided to close Wrong Brain Headquarters & suspend Wrong Brain public events through the end of March. The safety of our residents, members & community is in our hands, and we are taking the social distancing recommendations from the WHO & CDC very seriously. Wrong Brain cares about your Weird, and we want to be proactive in light of potential harm that could be caused to you and vulnerable members of our community. We hope to reopen for Dover Art Walk on Friday, April 3 for Maps Of Places I’ve Never Been, Vero Stewart’s first gallery show. We are flexible and will reassess the progress of the pandemic in 2 weeks. But for now, it is our responsibility to slow transmission; we believe social distancing, hand washing, and disinfecting surfaces is the best we can do collectively and individually. We encourage you to follow these CDC recommendations as well. We have to protect ourselves to protect those who may not be able to protect themselves. We have to work together when those in power have done little to protect us.

What that means for now:

Comedy Friday 3/20 will be live-streamed – please tune in at home & throw popcorn at the screen when someone tells a bad joke.

A Fancy New Discord Server – We’re going to go ahead and start our own Discord server which will act as a public chat room for those who want to engage and collaborate with people they might not know yet.

Gay Paper Mache Wednesdays 6-9pm will be an Instagram Live from your Studio Marathon – we encourage you to work on a project at home and join into our Livesteam from your studio, bedroom, kitchen, basement, or where ever!

Quarantine Challenge – we will post a new creative challenge each day to keep ya’all engaged and making – there will be a prompt, you’ll make a thing and send us a picture / video – and we will post it! Send in by midnight. Posts happen the next morning!

Gig & service workers – if you are having trouble getting paid during this period of All Cancellations, send us your Venmo and a picture and a blurb – we’ll post for you. Have art or music to sell? We’ll post those links too. Let’s help each other stay afloat. I know I don’t have sick leave or health insurance….

Stay safe, stay weird, & make some art.

jamie smith debut show

Jamie “Tank” Smith is a 38 year old painter and professional tattoo artist living in Lawrence, MA and working at Jim’s Tattoo in Seabrook, NH. Although Jamie has made art his career through tattooing for 20 years, this exhibit is his first showing outside of the tattoo world.

This collection of colorful acrylic paintings spanning several years differs greatly from Jamie’s fine line, black heavy style of tattooing. The collection boasts a full, complex spectrum of color with high contrast and absolutely no black. While much of the imagery reflects tattoo culture: literal & inner demons, goat heads, skulls, & sacred hearts; the expressive brushstrokes and saturated hues show a more relaxed, even optimistic side to the structured tattoo practice and some darker subject matter.

Please join us for refreshments at the gallery opening in participation with Dover Art Walk on Friday, February 7, from 4-9:30pm at Wrong Brain HQ. The exhibit will be on display through the month of February during regular open hours, Weds-Sun. 66 Third Street, B1, Dover NH

Wrong Brain is a NH recognized nonprofit arts organization aimed at providing a venue and outlet for emerging, unconventional and underrepresented artists in the Seacoast area and beyond.
