We are devastated to say that last night Cody John Laplante passed away. Cody was an amazing friend, a brilliant writer, and an invaluable asset to our creative community. His spirit was infectious. His ambition, dedication and talent drove Wrong Brain and we will miss him more than words can describe.
Cody first joined Wrong Brain in March 2010 as a poetry contributor to our first zine. He excitedly filled the position of Literary Editor for Zine #3, his tenacity fueling the existence of our published works. Although he would spend months at a time overseas teaching English, he would always stay connected and make plans with Wrong Brain for his returns home to New Hampshire. In the past year, Cody was the main reason we kept going; his ideas came pouring out at every meeting. We were lucky enough to publish our 7th zine with him, throwing a successful release party with the first ever Poetry Projection, which was intended to be the first in a series of live collaborative writing and music performances. His biggest plan for Wrong Brain was The Circus Project, which would include art installations, performances of music, drag, burlesque, and poetry, projections, light shows, and murals. Cody was passionate about the expansion of Wrong Brain, and we will continue to support the underground, underrepresented, emerging and alternative creatives in his honor.
We will organize an event to celebrate Cody’s life and influence within Wrong Brain. If you would like to perform, participate or help in any way, email Sam at samanthapaolini@gmail.com
